Circular Economy hat die Umstellung der Wertschöpfung zum Ziel – weg von der linearen Wegwerfgesellschaft hin zum zirkulären Modell. Zirkuläres Wirtschaften bedeutet, Rohstoffe so lange und häufig wie möglich zu nutzen und natürliche Ressourcen im Idealfall in Kreisläufen zu führen, ohne neue Ressourcen zu verbrauchen.
Normen und Standards können die Circular Economy aktiv unterstützen. Sie tragen dazu bei, Terminologie und Schnittstellen zu vereinheitlichen. Damit wird eine klare Kommunikation und ein geeigneter Informationsaustausch zwischen den verschiedenen Marktakteuren im Kreislauf sichergestellt, z. B. durch Anforderungen an recyclingfähige Produkte und eindeutige Materialklassifizierung für Hersteller und Recycler. Darüber hinaus unterstützen Normen und Standards dabei, eine breite gesellschaftliche Akzeptanz von zirkulären Produkten zu erreichen, die wiederum Voraussetzung dafür ist, dass zirkuläre Angebote ein wirtschaftliches Erfolgsmodell werden.
Bei der Erreichung der Ziele des Green Deals und Klimaschutzgesetzes 2021 kommt der Circular Economy eine besondere Bedeutung zu. Um die ambitionierten Klimaschutzziele zu erreichen, braucht es jetzt neue und überarbeitete technische Regeln für das zirkuläre Wirtschaften. Die Normungsroadmap Circular Economy legt hierfür den Weg fest und treibt so die grüne Transformation Deutschlands und Europas voran.

The aim of the circular economy is to convert value creation – away from the linear throwaway society towards the circular model. A circular economy means using raw materials for as long and as often as possible and, ideally, recycling natural resources without consuming new resources. Norms and standards can actively support the circular economy. They help standardize terminology and interfaces. This ensures clear communication and an appropriate exchange of information between the various market players in the cycle, e.g. through requirements for recyclable products and clear material classification for manufacturers and recyclers. In addition, norms and standards help to achieve broad social acceptance of circular products, which in turn is a precondition for circular offers to become an economic miodel for success. The circular economy is of particular importance in achieving the goals of the Green Deal and the Climate Protection Act 2021. In order to achieve the ambitious climate protection goals, now new and revised technical rules for circular economy are needed. The Circular Economy standardization roadmap sets the course for this and thus drives the green transformation of Germany and Europe forward.
