„Aneinander vorbei reden“ – Wenn kommunikative Projekte scheitern

In dem vorliegenden Beitrag soll anhand einer detaillierten Rekonstruktion zweier Radio-Anrufsendungen (einer ‚seriösen‘ psychologischen Beratungssendung und einer Talksendung) gezeigt werden, wie durch die mangelnde Passung der „kommunikativen Projekte“ (Linell 2009, 2012) der Anrufer/innen mit denen der Beraterin bzw. des Moderators in Laufe der Zeit eine Eskalation entsteht, die schließlich zum Abbruch der Gespräche und zum offenkundigen Äußern von Missfallen an der Interaktion führt. Besonders aufschlussreich ist dabei zu sehen, an welchen Stellen bereits erste Indizien für eine solche mangelnde Passung auftreten, noch bevor sie offensichtlich werden oder gar, als letzter Schritt, metakommunikativ behandelt werden. Verstehen wird hier als eine kollaborative Handlung betrachtet, die lokal immer wieder durchgeführt werden muss, um ein Scheitern von Interaktionen zu verhindern.

This paper will show on the basis of a detailed reconstruction of two radio phone-in formats (a ‘serious’ psychological counseling format and a talk format) how an escalation of the interactions is triggered and aggravated by “communicative projects” (Linell 2009, 2012) of the callers and the counselor/host which do not ‘fit’ together properly. Both conversations are ended abruptly and are commented on by the callers and the counselor/host as unsatisfactory. A revealing insight is provided by the fact that the unsatisfactory ‘fitting’ of communicative projects can be observed quite early on in both conversations, even though they are not yet treated as such at these times but only later in the talk, when the problems of understanding are commented upon explicitly by the callers and the counselor/host. Understanding is shown to be a collaborative activity which has to be repeated persistently on a local level to avoid the break-down of communication.
