Indranil Acharya and Ujjwal Kumar Panda: Geographical Imaginations: Literature and the ‘Spatial Turn’. Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2022.

This slender volume purports to be an introduction to the Spatial Turn in the humanities, its targeted audience Indian students who, in what authors Acharya and Panda deplore as the “nascent” state of spatial humanities in India, are to be made acquainted both with spatial theory and its application to literary texts, mainly from the British and American literary canons, but also from Indian literature in English or in English translation. Given the very limited number of pages at the authors’ disposal (about a quarter of which is taken up by a lengthy preface and a bibliography) this is an ambitious goal which, unfortunately, they fail to achieve.
