The U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration seeks to dispel specific misconceptions concerning the scope and implementation of the U.S.-EU Safe Harbor Framework, as the persistence of such misconceptions may adversely impact the mutually beneficial U.S.-German trade relationship. The ultimate aim of the following discussion is to underscore that the U.S.-EU Safe Harbor program continues to offer eligible U.S. organizations an officially recognized means of complying with the EU 1995 Data Protection Directive’s “adequacy” requirement.
