Zwischen Grundmorphem und Affix

Der in den letzten Jahren ins Blickfeld gerückte „Konfix“-Begriff hat die Diskussion im Bereich zwischen Grundmorphem und Affix neu belebt. Der folgende Beitrag untersucht auf empirischer Grundlage zunächst einen „Konfix“-Typ: heimische Grundwörter wie „_tag“ oder „_telefon“, die in bestimmten Bedeutungen nur morphologisch gebunden vorkommen; weiterhin verwandte Fälle wie „Bibel“ / „_bibel“ oder „Papst“ / „_papst“, die in bestimmten Bedeutungen weder als morphologisch gebunden noch als syntaktisch absolut frei zu betrachten sind, so dass von „syntaktisch gebundenen Grundmorphemen“ gesprochen werden muss. Die empirischen Beobachtungen führen zu der Annahme, dass sich Wortbildungselemente nicht nur von „frei“ nach „gebunden“, sondern auch von „gebunden“ nach „frei“ bewegen.

In recent years the notion of “combining form” has intensified the discussion about the area between (word-formation) base and affix. The following article gives an empirical analysis of one type of “combining form”: native right-side constituents such as “_tag” or “_telefon”, which in certain meanings only are used as morphologically bound forms; furthermore related cases like “Bibel” / “_bibel” or “Papst” / “_papst”, which in certain meanings are to be seen neither as morphologically bound nor as syntactically absolutely free, so that the concept of a “syntactically bound base” has to be established. The empirical results lead to the hypothesis that word-formation elements move not only from “free” to “bound”, but also from “bound” to “free”.
